Kundapur, Feb 5: In a tragic incident, a young man lost his life after being struck by a train while crossing the railway tracks in Nagoor, Kiremangala, on Tuesday evening, February 4. The deceased has been identified as Vasudeva Devadiga (25), son of Muttayya Devadiga, a resident of Deetimane in Bijoor village.

Vasudeva, who worked as a centering laborer, had cultivated watermelon on approximately five acres of land and was preparing for the harvest in the next few days. On the day of the incident, he had finished his centering work in Nagoor and was returning home. He had lent his vehicle to someone for loading watermelons, which was parked on the western side of the railway tracks. Vasudeva had gone to speak to the workers loading the watermelons and was returning after paying them when the accident occurred.

As he was crossing the railway tracks, he noticed a train approaching from the Mangaluru side towards Madagaon at the last moment. In an attempt to avoid the train, he tried to move aside but was struck on the face, resulting in fatal injuries.

Vasudeva had returned home for lunch earlier in the day and had mentioned to his family that he needed to finish work early to visit the Shri Brahmmalingeshwara Temple in Maranakatte. After completing his work, he had asked the workers to drop him home quickly so he could proceed to the temple. Unfortunately, the accident occurred while he was on his way back after speaking to the vehicle driver.

A case has been registered at the Byndoor police station. Vasudeva was the eldest of five children in the family.
