Udupi, Jul 28: Kargil Vijay Diwaswas celebrated at St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady on July 26, 2021 in honor of the valorous heroes of Kargil war. The historic victory of 1999 Kargil war was commemorated in a special way by honoring the retired officer of Indian Armed forces. Sergeant Ashok Kotian, the retired officer of Indian Air force and lieutenant commander Ricky Leonard Pereira, the officer of Indian Navy were the guests of honor. The program was presided over by correspondent Fr Charles Menezes, principal, Fr Johnson Sequeira and vice principal Rita Quadros escorted the dignitaries to the stage.
The program commenced by offering a floral tribute to the brave martyrs of Kargil war. Vinaya Suvarna, the PRO of the school introduced the guests of honor and officially extended the words of welcome. Later Sergeant Ashok Kotian and lieutenant commander Ricky Leonard Pereira were traditionally honoredby school with shawl, garland and mementos as a mark of respect to their invaluable service to the nation. Addressing the gathering Sergeant Ashok Kotian shared the adventurous memories of his service in Indian Air Force and also briefed the heroic sacrifices of Indian soldiers during operation Vijay 1999. Lieutenant commander Ricky Leonard Pereira in his speech appealed teachers to inculcate the essential patriotic values among students and groom them in to responsible citizens.Very Rev Fr. Charles Menezes in his presidential message emphasized the biblical value of ‘living for others’ and appealed the audience to make valuable contributions towards the wellbeing of society and the progress of nation.
A special documentary film featuring the adventurous glimpses of Kargil war was screened during the program. Few popular patriotic songs were sung by teachers’ choir which added special charm to the occasion. The celebration of Kargil Vijay Diwas was visioned and organized by principal Fr Johnson Sequeira and coordinated by vice principal Rita Quadros.The program was conceptualized and anchored by Lancy Mendonca, the assistant NCC Officer of school’s Naval wing. Deepa Kamath, Lavita and Renold elaborated the theme of the program with background note. Amratha proposed the vote of thanks. Jagadeesh Acharya and Linet Castelino provided the technical support. The celebration wound up with National Anthem.
