Bengaluru, Jul 26: Ending the suspense over his tenure, an emotionally charged Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday announced his resignation from the post from Vidhana Soudha, on the day he completed two years in office and later drove to Raj Bhavan to submit his resignation letter to the Governor, who asked him to stay in office till alternative arrangements were made.
After lunch, the 78-year-old Lingayat leader, who became Chief Minister of the State in July 2019 after 17 MLAs belonging to Congress and JD(S), brought down the H D Kumarawamy-led coalition government by resigning from their respective parties, drove to Raj Bhavan along with Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Laxman Savadi, Home and Law Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Health and Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar and formally tendered his resignation letter to Governor Tavar Chand Gehlot.
The Governor immediately accepted the resignation and asked Yediyurappa to continue in office till alternative arrangements for electing the BJP legislature party leader for installing the new Chief Minister are made.
Speaking to media representatives after submitting his resignation letter, the outgoing Chief Minister made it clear that he has tendered his resignation letter on his own and not due to any pressure.
Yediyurappa, once again, chose the opportunity to profusely thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President J P Nadda for giving him an opportunity to become Chief Minister for the fourth time despite being above 75 years in age for the fourth time.
Yediyurappa made it clear that he will be working for the strengthening the party and bring it back to power in the ensuing assembly elections in 2023 and also in the next lok sabha polls in 2024.
Answering questions, the outgoing Chief Minister disclosed that he had made up his mind to quit two months back but was persuaded to stay in office till the completion of the second anniversary.
He asserted that he will work as an ordinary party worker and made it clear that he will not accept any position.
