Mangalore, Sep 14: Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner, V Ponnuraj, informed that the works on setting up a bus stand for private buses at Pumpwell in the city will begin as soon as the intensity of rains comes down. Speaking to reporters on Monday September 13, he revealed that out of 18 acres of land required for the project, seven acres have already been acquired, and process to acquire the balance 11 acres will be set into motion soon.
“A decision either to buy or acquire the required land through land acquisition process will be taken soon. Initially, land filling for this low-lying land will be undertaken to level the land. The works will begin in December,” he stated.
Ponnuraj said that issues relating to the district’s development had been discussed at the important meeting held with the MLAs and district in-charge minister on Monday. He revealed that other issues like improper distribution of ration cards, pending bills relating to works sanctioned under local area development funds of MPs and MLAs, were discussed at the meeting. “Road repairs will be undertaken in October, and we are waiting for the monsoon fury to die down,” he explained.
