Mangaluru, Jul 19: Dr Naveen Shetty K, principal of Nitte Shankara Adyanthaya PU College said that the knowledge of agriculture, which has given rice to form a living, should be imparted to the students.
Dr Shetty was speaking to the students after inaugurating the paddy sapling planting programme that was organised at Pilaru Irnooruguthu paddy fields by the NSS students of the college on Tuesday.
Dr Shetty further said, “We have students from various districts, cities and village areas in our college. However, most of them do not know the source of rice which they eat every day. In the present competitive age, it is not possible to form the life of a student just through lessons and lectures. When the coronavirus pandemic hit the whole earth, many entrepreneurs, engineers, doctors and cine actors went back to villages and started doing agriculture. This means that agriculture is an integral part of our life.”
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest and former MLA Jayarama Shetty said, “One who does agriculture will not live in poverty. The work of this educational institute is appreciable. Students will come to know the value of rice through this activity. The agricultural sector should be modernized.”
Purushothama Pilar, a former member of Someshwar town municipality, Vishwabath Alva, Sharath Kumar Bhandary, progressive farmers, owner of paddy fields Shakuntala Shetty and NSS student leader Sanjay Nayak were present.
NSS project officer Sandhya welcomed the gathering. Lecturer Manasvi rendered the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Meera Crasta.
