Bengaluru, Jun 25: The tourism sector has been hard hit by coronavirus infection. The government, which proposes to encourage tourism, has extended a slew of concessions to the sector. Through an order, it has extended concessions to some charges including property taxes and other fee, and extension of time for others.
The government has extended 50 percent concession on property tax for hotels, resorts, restaurants and entertainment parks for the year 2021-22. At the same time, power tariff for the first quarter of the current year has also been waived. These entities have also been allowed to pay 50 percent of the excise fee and additional excise licence fee now and remit the balance by December 31.
The government has already ordered to extend package relief of Rs 5,000 each to registered tourist guides by way of transfer to their bank accounts.
Tourism Society had earlier sought many concession and revival packages for tourism sector as the sector is facing huge losses due to covid19 second wave. Minister for tourism, C P Yogeshwar, said that the government will always be there to support the sector.
