Mangaluru, Jun 12: Grocery kits were distributed to drama artistes under the joint auspices of Tulu Nataka Kalavidara Okkuta Regd, Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Regd, Lions Club Mangaluru Kodialbail and Friends Tuluver Kuwait on Saturday June 12 at the Gokul auditorium in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, city police commissioner Shashikumar said, “In the district of Dakshina Kannada cultural programmes are held every day. People who revere the art are with the artistes in this district. During this pandemic, saving our lives itself has become a big task. We have lost our friends and relatives. Daily wage labourers. Those who do menial jobs and artistes are in trouble. Educational institutions have faced severe setbacks. What the artistes will do when all are in agony? Many more organizations should come to the rescue of artistes during this time. This is a time when humanity is given utmost importance. So the haves should help the have nots in the society. That will protect in one way or other.”
In his introductory speech, senior drama artiste Lakshman Kumar Mallur said, “Yakshagana artistes were in dire straits during the olden days. During monsoon when there were no stage shows, Yakshagana artistes used to face innumerable issues. Patla Sathish Shetty came to the rescue of Yakshagana artistes by establishing the Patla Foundation. If the drama and yakshagana artistes are heaving a sigh of relief it is because of the Patla Foundation. In the first lockdown also they distributed grocery kits to more than 300 families.”
Mangaluru city police commissioner Shashi Kumar, founder president of Patla Foundation Patla Sathish Shetty, chief secretary of the foundation Purushotham Bhandary Adyar, Lion Vasanth Shetty, Gokul Kadri, Govardhan Shetty, Pradeep Alva, Tharanath Shetty Bolar, Lakshman Kumar Mallur, Catca president Mohan Koppala, Jagannath Shetty Bala, Kadri Navaneeth Shetty and Lion Kishore Shetty were present.
