Kasargod, Aug 25: St Mary’s College and School, Panathady here celebrated Onam with vigour.
College students and school children along with the staff participated in various competitions like tug-of-war, eating bittergourd, draping a saree (for men) and pookkalam among others. To mark the presence of king Maveli, college had carried out a procession of the king and Vamanan in public places.
The man donning the role of king Maveli addressed the gathering and distributed gifts to the
winners. Manager of the Institutions Fr George Manjangal, Fr Lukas, principal of the school, Fr George Kutty, principal of the college, Fr Shimit, administrator of St Mary’s School and Sr Sally, vice-principal of St Mary’s School were present.
Onam is the common festival of Kerala where all the citizens of Kerala come together and celebrate in oneness.
On the occasion of Tiru Onam, the Kerala state readies itself to welcome King Maveli who is considered as god who lived among the human beings. It makes the people remember the presence of Maveli and the Vamanan. King Maveli is the one who treated his citizens very well. People remember him because of his good works on the earth even today.
If Maveli was existent now we would have had no problems is what the people express when asked about the great king.
