Puttur: Indira canteen issues 300 food parcels to 70 customers!

Puttur, May 26: There are reasons to infer that the allegations of irregularities in the Indira canteen here, which has been instructed to provide free meal to poor people and those in distress during the lockdown period, are not without any substance.

Local MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor, who got information that the canteen has been selling 300 food parcels every day, went to the canteen on Tuesday May 25 and verified the records. He found that 300 food parcels were issued to 70 persons. A check of the books revealed that the number of visitors to the canteen was recorded at 70 but over eight parcels were issued to the same person in some cases. He asked the municipal president to call the mobile numbers recorded in the register and cross check the details.

The canteen manager claimed that the people get angry if they do not get parcels in requisite numbers as per their demand. He stated that they have been accounting for the parcels, duly noting down the mobile numbers.

Matandoor said that he has noticed irregularities in issuing parcels to people in the morning, afternoon and night. He said he will bring this fact to the notice of the deputy commissioner of the district.
