Mangaluru, Feb 5: District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has directed officials to initiate the construction process for the much-awaited Rangamandira in Mangaluru.
The minister held a meeting with senior officials at the Bantwal Travellers' Bungalow regarding the Rangamandira project on Wednesday, February 5. He stated that a proposal seeking administrative approval for the construction, estimated at Rs 9.95 crore, has already been submitted to the government. "I have discussed the matter with Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi today, and the approval from the government is expected soon," he said.
Following government approval, Mangaluru City Corporation will carry out the tendering process, the minister added. After reviewing the complete project details, he emphasized that the Rangamandira should be constructed as a fully equipped cultural centre without any shortcomings. The design and technology should be tailored to support artistic activities, he instructed.
The minister directed that the available Rs 9.95 crore fund be utilized to complete the Rangamandira. For additional requirements such as interior design, sound and lighting systems, and final works, necessary funds will be arranged through the Kannada and Culture Department, Mangaluru City Corporation, and Mangaluru Urban Development Authority.
Since the proposed site at Bondel is suitable for the Rangamandira, the minister instructed that access roads and other infrastructure be included in the project plan.
Deputy commissioner Mullai Mugilan MP provided the minister with details of the project.
Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner Ravichandra Nayak, zilla panchayat deputy secretary Jayalakshmi, assistant director of Kannada and Culture Department Rajesh G, district information officer B A Khader Shah, and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
