Karkala, May 25: In a shocking incident that has occurred at Belman in the taluk, shining plastic rice was found in the rice that was meant for distributing among ration cardholders.

Villagers were enraged after finding the plastic rice and brought the matter to the notice of officials and local panchayat. The concerned officers have assured the consumers of suitable inquiry into the matter.

Many a times, adulterated rice is found to be distributed to the consumers of public distribution system (PDS) stores throughout the state. Now it is the turn of the Belman villagers to be under shock.

The main PDS centre of Karkala is intimated of the mishap as well as the food department officials. They have started inquiry head-on as per the information relayed by Nithyananda Shetty, president of Belman farming service cooperative society. The consumers who have already collected their monthly quota have been asked to return the same to the respective shop.

Karkala tahsildar, Purandar Hegde assured to inspect the fair price shop and conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

Felix Pinto koteshwera ,I dont think it was the fault from Politicians.Because they dont fill up.It is solely by the handlers or our people who distributers. It was always so previously too.Good rice goes to market to sell or is in godown for further selling according to the market price. And rice with insects and left offs are for poor to ration cards. Why do that I cant understand.Simply beating on poor ones stomach?Dont they have no right to live ?and to have a normal food ?I only curse those who do this .They should be on receiver side and understand this .

It’s PP granules Raw material used to make Plastic bags and other PP products . It’s more expensive than free rice which Govt is distributing. Practically impossible to replace rice with plastic - the price difference is huge. It’s mischief by someone and some where.

This is another proof how much our crocodile politicians care for the poor. I am sure, the bags were originally used for bagging LDPE/HDPE/PP/PE pellets. Second hand bags from scrap market are used and aren't even cleaned before use. I had gone to a poor family to deliver a food kit (grocery and veg) sponsored by few friends. I found the man cleaning/sifting wheat procured from ration shop. I picked a handful of wheat out of curiosity. To my horror I found so many extraneous matter, stones, sand, mud, wooden pieces and worst of all excreta of rats, insects etc. May God punish those who mint millions by abusing our nation's PDS.

its shape doesn't look like a rice. It look like polymer pellets. Need to find out whether mix up is intentional. Secondly, quantity of these pellets found in each rice bag is not clear.

These are LLDPE granules. Used to manufacture plastic bags. I doubt people from Nallasopara understand what is LLDPE?. Price of this is double the price of rice that you buy from ration shop along with kerosene.

Agree Plastic / HDPE / Nylon pellets are costlier ranging from Rs.50 to Rs.80 per kg and make no economic sense in adding it with the rice..... Normally these pellets are used to make HDPE bags; where there are chances of getting the same mixed with its contents..... But in the case, as seen in the picture, all the sacks seen are gunny bags..... Then how it got added ? ..... Think Nehruji’s ghost might have come and added it.... We have to raid the Congress office.

Every failure of BJP Government, they used to blame 70 years of misrule and blame Nehru (for a moment let us forget that wealth accumulated by Central Bank for 70 years has been taken by this Government).... so though let this put this also on Nehruji's head..... Sorry, never knew Andh Bhakths only have the right to blame Nehru :)
