Mangaluru, May 17: Former district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai along with former MLA Abhayachandra Jain visited Sasihithlu-Munda beach that suffered due to the impact of Cyclone Tauktae.
A part of a shop was also washed by a huge wave at Munda beach, while the other portion is on the verge of collapsing.
Speaking to the media, Abhayachandra Jain said, "Four years ago surfing event was held at Sasihithlu-Munda beach since then there were no measures taken to preserve this beach. Some of the stones of the sea wall also washed away due to Tauktae. Nearly 2-3 acres of land has been washed away, Munda beach is a tourist spot that needs to be preserved.
"BJP MLAs and the state government did not show any interest to preserve this beach. We urge the government to release funds to maintain Munda beach," Jain said.
President of Mulky Block Congress, Dhananjay Mattu, KPCC member, Vasanth Barnad, district Congress general secretary, T K Sudhir, panchayat member, Sathish, Chandru, Anil and others were present.
