Kasargod, May 13: Revenue minister E Chandrashekaran informed that the government has taken measures to meet the oxygen demand in the district, hence, people need not panic.
He was speaking to the media on Thursday at the government guest house here.
"It was possible to meet the demand of oxygen to the district, after discussing with the chief minister, health minister, and deputy commissioner. All types of measures will be taken to meet the shortage of oxygen cylinders, oxygen beds, and ventilators," he added.
There are over 16,000 corona-infected patients in the district. Nearly, 95% of people are availing the treatment in their residence. As many 682 people are admitted to the government hospital. Of which, only a few patients required oxygen. The district requires 360 oxygen cylinders every day. Though the order for the oxygen from Hyderbad has been placed, it will take four weeks for it to reach the district, he added.
There are 147 oxygen beds in the district. We are planning to increase it to 1,016 beds. The district has a population of over 13 lac. Of which, 3.3% of people have availed vaccination. There are 54 ventilators in the district. Of which, only seven ventilators are being used.
The number of positive cases portrays that the lockdown is effective in the district. While compared to other districts, the number of positive cases in the district has declined, the minister informed.
