Udupi, May 5: “All the necessary arrangements will be made to supply oxygen and Remdesivir for the treatment of Covid patients,” assured home minister and Udupi district in-charge Basavaraj Bommai. He was speaking at a progress review meeting of Covid in the district via video conference on Wednesday, May 5.
“Submit a report on the requirement for Remdesivir on a daily basis and make sure that sufficient oxygen is available to prevent scarcity. Provide oxygen and Remdesivir only to the patients who need them and prevent the wastage,” he said.
“Open Covid Care Centres in taluk for those who are unable to stay in home isolation. Appoint doctors, nurses and D Group employees in these areas. Make use of the services of AYUSH doctors. The deputy commissioner is authorized to appoint staff on a contract basis,” he said.
“Increase the ICU bed capacity by 10 in the district hospital. Increase the ICU beds reserved for Covid at KMC and TMA hospital in the district. Attach ventilators supplied by the government to the beds in private hospitals and provide treatment.”
“Give priority to those who need a second dose of vaccine in the district. Report the number of doses required for this purpose. Administer the doses within the time limit. District panchayat CEO should monitor the work of the task force formed to control the infection in the villages. Monitor the health of people in home isolation. Admit them to the hospital or Covid health care centre if necessary. A report about Covid management should be submitted on a daily basis. Contact me directly if necessary,” he told the deputy commissioner.
MP Shobha Karandlaje directed the deputy commissioner to appoint nodal officers to private hospitals so as to ensure that there is no scarcity of beds. She further said that another oxygen plant will be installed in Udupi hospital from CSR funds which will have all the necessary equipment for Covid care.
MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Sunil Kumar, Lalaji R Mendon, Coastal Development Authority president, Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, deputy commissioner, G Jagadeesh, district panchayat CEO, Dr Navin Bhat, additional deputy commissioner, Sadashiva Prabhu, DHO, Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda and others were present.
