Mangaluru, May 4: Senior journalist Surendra Shetty (57) died in a private hospital in the city on the morning of Tuesday following a brief illness.
Surendra Shetty who was born at Avarse Padumane of Brahmavar taluk grew up at Achladi. He secured MA in Mass communication and journalism from Mangalore University. He worked in various dailies like Mungaru, Samyukta Karnataka, Kannadaprabha, Vijayakarnataka, Varthabharathi etc. He was the chief of Mangaluru edition of Kannadaprabha newspaper for a short period.
Surendra Shetty was the founder honorary president of old students association of Mass communication and Journalism of Mangalore University (MAAM). He was the president of Silver Jubilee committee of this department.
Shetty was the editor of ‘Manobhinandana Abhinandana’ book which was published on the occasion of felicitation of senior journalist of Mangaluru Manohar Prasad organized by Media Alumni Association of Mangalagagotri (MAAM). He was working in a private company of the city for the past two years.
Shetty is survived by wife, daughter and family members.
Office bearers of MAAM including honorary president Venu Sharma expressed their deep condolences on the demise of Surendra Shetty. Venu Sharma remembered his participation and guidance right from the days of inception of MAAM.
