New Delhi, Jul 31 (IANS): There were finally some smiles in the Indian women's hockey team as they won the bronze medal Saturday by beating much fancied rivals China in the inaugural edition of the Asia Cup held in Busan, South Korea.
The medal will lift the morale of the team, which has been rocked with charges of sexual harassment that saw chief coach Maharaj Kishan Kaushik resigning.
India came from behind to register a 2-1 victory over world No.3 China. The Indian team is currently ranked 13th in the world.
Wang Mengyu scored the only goal for China in the 16th minute.
India equalised in the 24th minute with Saba Anjum and skipper Surinder Kaur struck the winner by converting a penalty corner in the 63rd minute.
