Bantwal, Mar 30: The heavy rain and strong winds in the taluk on Monday night caused damage to more than 50 houses.
Major damage was caused in B Mooda, Narikombu, Amtadi, Kallige and Ammunje villages. The revenue officials have conducted spot inspections and have estimated the loss.
The roof of two houses at Kamaje and Mairan Pade of B Mooda were blown away by the storm and 30 other houses suffered damage.
The houses of Seetharama, Kamala, Gauri, Shivananda, Bharati, Revati, Nalini, Devadas, Jayanti, Vanaja, Radha, Abdul Rehman, Revati, Yogesh Acharya, Shanta, Mayila, Devappa Achary, Shashikala, Rukmayya Moolya, Prema, Muthu Honnamma, Sundara Poojary, Laxmi Poovappa Devadiga, Nagamma, Laxmi, Janaki, Hemavati, Shivamma and Meenakshi was wrecked.
The houses of Varija, Sheelavati and Prabhakar Poojary suffered damage in Amtadi. The areca nut plantations of Felix Pinto, Richard Pinto, Thomas Saldanha and Manoj Fernandes also faced the brunt of the rains.
A release of the revenue department states that the houses at Ammunje belonging to Renuka, Gopala, Belchada and Kallige’s Varija, Carmine D’Souza, Severine D’ Souza, Victoria and Cyprian D’ Souza have been ruined.
The strong wind uprooted coconut trees and light poles disrupting electricity at many places.
