Mangalore, Jul 22: The intensity of rains had come down a bit on Wednesday July 21. However, the meteorological department has predicted very heavy, isolated rains in the coast during the next two days.
Connectivity to several villages in the twin-district was cut off because of inundated roads or because the roads were washed away. A person named Bollu Harijana (55) drowned after falling into a canal while picking areca nut in the plantation of Vishwanath Hegde in Kamblagudde, Kadtala near Ajekar in Karkala taluk. Babu Poojary (65), a resident of Gurugunjibettu of Kanyana village in Kundapur taluk was electrocuted on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, he was trying to save a child that had gone to relieve itself near a fallen live wire. His wife, Sadiyamma, daughters, Vanaja and Shakila, who tried to save Babu, suffered injuries and were admitted to a hospital.
Several houses including the ones owned by Kalyani in Badanidiyoor village, and Sidda Naik in Nalkur village, both in Udupi taluk, collapsed because of rains. Revenue officials have visited these places to assess the damage.
