Bangalore, Jul 9 (DHNS): Potographs of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and Health Minister B Sriramulu displayed on 108 ambulance service became the topic of heated discussion between the Treasury benches and the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
It all began during a question raised by N Sampangi (Cong). The Opposition Congress felt the photograph of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should also be displayed on the ambulances as the scheme was funded by the grants received from the Centre.
However, Ministers Jagadish Shettar and Basavaraj Bommai countered the argument of the Congress stating that the scheme was being funded not on grants from the Centre but funds of Rs 112.5 crore received by the state under the 12th Finance Commission.
The devolution of funds under the 12th Finance Commission was the rightful share of the State government, they argued. The ruling party’s contention did not go well with the Congress members who threatened to stage a dharna if the government does not meet its demand.
With the arguments and counter-arguments showing no signs of ending, Speaker K G Bopaiah decided to convert the question to a half-an-hour discussion.
