Mangalore, Jul 9 (DHNS): Hundreds of passengers who arrived at Mangalore in Train No 6518 Kannur – Yeswantpur Express on Thursday night were put to hardship after they learnt that the train was cancelled from Mangalore, following derailment of a goods train between Yedakumari and Siribagilu stations.
It was hardly two weeks since a lanslide had occurred between Thokur and Padil stations following which thousands of passengers literally struggled to reach their destinations.
Almost all the passengers learnt of the cancellation of the train in which they arrived, only after reaching Mangalore.
“I have to reach Bangalore tomorrow (Friday) to attend an interview and I have to find an alternative to reach there,” said Krishnaiah, a passenger, who rushing to bus stand to catch any available bus.
Kalyan, a State government employee, who was on his way to Mysore, too found it difficult to make alternative arrangement as he had little kids with many baggage.
“We cannot have an alternative train but we are giving full refund of the train tickets upto 72 hours,” said senior ticket examiner Kishan. Speaking to Deccan Herald, he said that the railway authorities have asked help from KSRTC to which they have readily agreed and have provided three KSRTC buses and one Rajahamsa bus to take passengers to their destinations.
Waiting room facilities are available but many passengers are preferring to find an alternative to reach their destination, he informed.
Meanwhile, the train from Yeshwanthpura to Kannur via Mangalore (No 6517) too has been cancelled and the train service may hopefully start again on Friday once the track is cleared, the officer said.
Soon after the station received the news of derailment, the action relief train has left to the mishap spot, said Mangalore Station Manager.
