Mangaluru, Mar 6: As part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the post-graduate department of Criminology and Forensic Science, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya (Autonomous) and the department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Yenepoya University (Deemed to be), here, on March 5 had organized a workshop on ‘Crime Scene Investigation’ followed by a ‘Forensic Science Exhibition’ at the college campus.
The delegates of the programme consisted of doctors representing various states of India, who are the students of postgraduate diploma in Forensic Anthropology and Odontology, Yenepoya University (Deemed to be). Dr Leena Pramod, the assistant professor and coordinator of the post-graduate diploma in Forensic Anthropology and Odontology represented the department from Yenepoya University (Deemed to be).
Dr Juliet C J, principal of the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru addressed the doctors for their selfless service rendered during the pandemic situation and also briefed them about the institution and the courses offered on the college campus. Dr Saritha D'Souza, head of the post-graduate department of Criminology and Forensic Science delivered a session on Criminology and its relevance in society, Procedure of Police Investigation and Crime Scene Management. She spoke about the 3 I’s of investigation, various techniques used in searching and sketching of the crime scene, and the appropriate technique in handling and preservation of scientific evidence to forward it for seeking expert opinion. A practical exposure was provided for the delegates by creating a simulated crime scene. Athira V J, secretary of the Forensic Forum compered the programme.
On this occasion, Forensic Science Exhibition was also arranged for the delegates, where the second-year postgraduate students of Criminology and Forensic Science took an initiative to explain various divisions of Forensic Science and its functions, under the guidance of Roshan D’Souza and Shreenidhi, assistant professors of the postgraduate department of Criminology and Forensic Science.
