Mangalore, Jul 7: Heavy rains continued to lash Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday July 6, while Udupi district experienced normal rains. As the rains were not accompanied by wind or lightning, they did not cause damage other than creating transportation problems and flooding of some low-lying areas.
The Air India Express flight from Dubai to the city which was expected to touch down at around 6 am was diverted to Kochi airport on Tuesday. Subrahmanya in Sullia taluk and its surrounding villages have been experiencing incessant rains since about a week. River Kumaradhara and several streams in the region are overflowing. Some foot bridges gave way and as a result, people faced problems in reaching their homes. Flowing water on the roads has been a common problem at most of the places. Some low-lying places in Suratkal, Bykampady, Hosabettu etc., were inundated. The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains and winds during the next two days.
