Bangalore, Jul 3 (DC): Opposition members on Friday demanded the resignation of primary and secondary education minister, Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, alleging he had failed to curb the donation menace in private schools. Mr Kageri was also accused of failing to ensure proper supply of text books to schools in time.
JD(S) MLC M. Srinivas said though most city schools are forcing parents to cough up more money as donation, no action has been initiated to save the children.
“According to the information provided by Kageri, only two schools have been booked in donation cases. It is an open secret that all private schools accept donations. But no special squad has been formed to check this menace as assured earlier,” he said. Supporting Srinivas, another JD(S) MLC, Maritibbe Gowda alleged that Kageri’s contribution to the education sector in the last two years is zero and he should quit the Cabinet.
“Government and corporation schools have become dumping yards. There are no proper facilities in many schools. In such a situation, how do you expects girls to attend school?” he questioned.
