Los Angeles, Jan 9: Raging wildfires across Los Angeles have left five dead, over 1,500 structures destroyed, and 100,000 residents displaced. Pacific Palisades and Altadena are among the hardest-hit areas, with 16,000 and 10,600 acres scorched, respectively.

Hurricane-force winds and dry conditions have fueled the fires, overwhelming firefighters and leaving hydrants in some areas dry. “We don’t have enough personnel to manage this,” said Fire Chief Anthony Marrone.

Victims like William Gonzales, who lost his Altadena home, are devastated. “The flames consumed all our dreams,” he said.

Scientists link the disaster to climate change, with prolonged drought and high winds creating unprecedented conditions. Estimated losses have reached $57 billion, making this one of the costliest fires in history.

Governor Gavin Newsom and President Joe Biden have pledged full support as efforts to contain the fires continue.
