Mangaluru: Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing organises grand Graduation Day ceremony

Mangaluru, Feb 22: Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing held the Graduation Day ceremony on February 21 at 6 pm at AJIMS auditorium, Kuntikana, here. The chief guest for the day was Somashekarayya Kalmath, senate member of RGUHS, Bengaluru and associate professor of KLE Institute of Nursing Science, Hubballi.

For college students, graduation is the beginning of their 'Real' lives as they fly out from the warmth and comfort of the college and university. Around 132 graduates, guest and invitees brought a grandiose atmosphere to the programme. The ceremony began with the graduates' march followed by the HOD’s of the various departments and the dignitaries.

The programme commenced with an invocation dance by the 3rd year Bsc Nursing students. Dr Diana Lobo, convener of the programme welcomed the gathering followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the esteemed dignitaries.

The vice-principal, Dr Thereza L Mendonca read the annual report. Somashekarayya along with Dr Larissa Martha Sams, the principal of Laxmi Memorial College Of Nursing conferred the graduates with medals and certificates. Dr Jenifer D’Souza, the HOD of the Community Health Nursing of Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing recited the ceremonial pledge and the students recapitulated it, committing themselves to the noble profession.

The chief guest congratulated the graduates and enlightened the gathering that nurses are the true ambassadors of the institution to alleviate suffering inspire and innovate their service through integrity, compassion and loyalty.

Proficiency prizes were presented to the rank holders and the college toppers were honoured by Somashekarayya. Dr Larissa Martha Sams awarded the best outgoing students graduates Keerthi Anil and Ruveena Menezes. Dr Larissa Martha Sams delivered the presidential address highlighting that the management is keen on improving the quality of patient care and wished all graduates, toppers and rank holders. Patsy Castelino, the assistant professor, proposed the vote of thanks.

The formal programme came to an end with the National Anthem and recession of the graduates. Aileen Perera and Veena Kulal compered the programme.
