Mangaluru, Feb 19: Shakthi Education Trust in collaboration with Kreeda Bharathi, here, organised a mass surya namaskara for all the students and staff.
"Lord Surya is considered as the giver of health and wealth. So worshipping Him in the early morning when the sun rays are fresh will rejuvenate one’s energy, and purify the mind and body. Moreover, even scientifically it is proven that there are many benefits of getting exposed to the early morning sun," said Gajanana Pai, resource person on the auspicious occasion of ratha sapthami.
Ratha sapthami is a symbol of the change of season to spring and the start of the harvesting season. It is said that this day marks the birth of Surya hence known as Surya Jayanthi or Magha Sapthami.
Under the able guidance of the yoga instructor, Yogish and Lekhana chanting the surya mantra, all students and staff performed 21 surya namaskara each.
The president, Kariappa Rai, secretary of Krishna Shetty Taremar, co-ordinator Bhoja Raj Kalladka, Mahila Pramukh Hema Prabha Laila were present on the occasion. Dr K C Naik, the administrator, Ramesh K, chief advisor of Prakyath Rai-Institute Development Officer, Sudheer M K, the principal-in-charge of Shakthi PU College, Vidya Kamath G, principal of Shakthi Residential School and Neema Saxena, co-ordinator of Shakthi Pre-School all teaching and non-teaching staff along with the students of Shakthi group of institutions took the benefit of this concept.
Sevanthi, a former Mahila Pramukh and Sharanappa, Kannada teacher compered the event.
