Mangaluru: Centre for Testing and Consultancy Services at SJEC gets off to grand opening

Mangaluru, Feb 17: To strengthen the consultancy based services emanating out of the college, St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), here, inaugurated the Centre for Testing and Consultancy Services under the Department of Civil Engineering. Dr Venkata Ramana Akkaraju, chairman of New Mangalore Port Trust, here, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Dr Yajnheswaran B, head of the department of Civil Engineering presented a brief overview of the centre. The chief guest inaugurated the consultancy office and unveiled the brochure in the presence of Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director of SJEC, Fr Rohith D’Costa and Fr Alwyn Richard D’Souza, assistant directors of SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, principal of SJEC and Rakesh Lobo, HR manager of the college.



In his keynote address, Dr Venkata Ramana Akkaraju stressed the importance of engineers to the world. He briefly touched upon the role of engineers and the services that they offer to society in general. Speaking about the significance of the newly opened consultancy centre, he opined that it will be highly beneficial to the students of the college and the region. While congratulating the college for coming up with such an excellent initiative, he wished that the centre grows in stature in the days to come.

Vani, the convener of the programme rendered the vote of thanks. Reena James Rodrigues compered the programme.

The newly inaugurated testing centre is intended to provide third-party quality testing to various public and private entities for several materials, which include concrete characteristics, soil parameters and water quality. The consultancy primarily focuses on aspects of planning, design, management and quality control of a wide range of civil engineering works
