Yes, it does appear to be driven by politics. In principle, there needs to be clear separation of religious and educational institutions. Yes, there are Christian, Muslim or Hindu run educational institutes and universities - but their objective is still purely educational service and not related to their religion. The difference here is that the madrasas are religious education institutions first and general education next. They don't go well together and there is no reason to mix the two. Having stated that, for society in general, we are better off with a madrasa graduate who can transition to the wider society more smoothly than one that is relegated to religious studies only for the rest of one's life

This is a very good move by the Government. It should not matter what someone has learnt before the age of 18, so long as they are good with literacy and numeracy... ...they can then pursue higher education with IGNOU or an equivalent. Indeed a technical course is great for job preparation.

Dear Dylan Mangalore. You are correct because the minister told that only MADRASA students are benefited by this proposed provision. Govt should ALSO encourage and recognise the othet religious education institutions.
