Udupi, Feb 8: The Matsyagandha Express, equipped with new LHB coaches, is set to embark on its first journey on February 17. A crucial rail link between coastal Karnataka and Mumbai, the train is undergoing a significant upgrade with the introduction of state-of-the-art LHB coaches featuring advanced German technology.
The problems faced by passengers were highlighted by Daijiworld.com, playing a key role in bringing them to the attention of the authorities. These efforts, along with public appeals, ensured that necessary improvements were implemented.
The decision to replace the older coaches followed numerous complaints from passengers regarding the train’s condition and comfort. Many travellers voiced their concerns through videos and public appeals, emphasizing the need for urgent upgrades. These issues were brought to the notice of union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and railway minister (MoS) V Somanna through a formal report. In response, the ministers ordered the replacement of all Matsyagandha Express coaches with LHB coaches, ensuring enhanced safety and comfort for passengers.
The Matsyagandha Express holds special significance for people from Maharashtra and Karnataka, having been in service since May 1, 1998. The train was introduced during the tenure of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, with special efforts from George Fernandes. Over the years, it has remained a lifeline for thousands of daily commuters, making this upgrade an emotional milestone for many.
The new LHB coaches come with multiple safety and comfort enhancements. They are designed to prevent derailments in case of accidents by aligning themselves in a zigzag formation. Additionally, the train will now operate with reduced noise levels, making journeys more pleasant for passengers. The toilets have been completely modernized, offering improved hygiene and better facilities.
MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, in his Facebook post, stated: "I cordially invite you all to Udupi as the Matsyagandha Express, with its new LHB coaches, embarks on its first journey on February 17. I request railway officials to join us on this occasion, where we will also discuss upcoming railway projects and address any concerns passengers may have regarding train travel. Additionally, the Mangalore Express, which follows the Matsyagandha Express on its route to Maharashtra, will begin operations with new LHB coaches from March 1. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and especially minister V Somanna for supporting and facilitating these railway development projects. I also express my special thanks to the head of the Railway Users Committee for their valuable advice and continuous contributions to railway development."
