Mangaluru, Jan 29: Following the passing of the act prohibiting cow slaughter in Karnataka, demand to withdraw false cases filed against Hindu activists who were trying to rescue cows being illegally transported for slaughter, is gaining momentum.
The workers say that during the tenure of the previous governments, efforts were made to muffle their voices by booking them under sections of law connected with grave criminal offences like murder attempt and robbery. Most of these cases are pending in the courts of coastal districts, Hassan, Belagavi, Kodagu etc. Hindu activists want these cases to be dropped.

This fact was brought to the notice of animal husbandry minister Prabhu Chauhan wherever he toured. Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Sharan Pumpwell said that organizations in Mangaluru have been more active in these aspects and naturally there are many false cases against them. Animal Welfare Board state committee member, Vinay L Shetty, too said that the proposal which is in preliminary stage, may ultimately be approved by the government. The Gau Rakshaks will have to operate either with the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the police, who have powers to stop illegal cattle transportation. Identity cards may be issued to their members.
