Mangaluru, Jan 29: The three arrested in connection to the attack on a police constable at New Chitra Junction are associated with ‘Karkana Gang’, informed police commissioner N Shashi Kumar.
Speaking to media on Friday Janaury 29, he said, “The arrested accused are Ibrahim Shakir (19) from Bolar, Akbar (30) from Sajipanadu, Bantwal, and Mohammad Haneef alias Karchi Haneef (32) from Kudroli. The total arrests in this case have risen to 11. Earlier, six people were arrested from ‘Maya Gang’. Maya Gang and Karkana Gang coordinated with each other to execute the plan to attack the constable in revenge of the firing incident which took place in December 2019 during anti-CAA violence. Ganesh Kamath was a random person to get attacked. Aneesh of Maya Gang was supposed to execute the plan. Later the discussion took place between them in which one minor was identified to execute the plan.
“They had identified four major places to execute the act where there were one or two police personnel deployed and to escape easily. After a week-long planning, the attack was systematically executed. They had even planned how to answer during interrogation and whom to contact in the jail. Maya Gang and Karkana Gang are known to each other.
“We have seen in films where gangs use children to execute crimes. Here, a minor was used for criminal offence which is totally unacceptable. The minor consumed tablets and ganja and is involved in this conspiracy. We have got many important leads pertaining to the case and investigation is in process.
“Police work day and night keeping their personal life aside. Even during festivals, police work for the safety of the public and also safeguard public property. We have noticed misconduct from police as well and action will be taken from department’s end. Police being attacked for revenge is unacceptable. We will not spare the accused. Stringent action will be taken against such miscreants,” he said.
