Mangaluru: Republic Day celebrated at Lourdes Central School


 The 72nd Republic Day at Lourdes Central School (LCS) began on January 25 with the introduction from a student who spoke about the topics in each class.

On January 26, the LCS ground was all set, filled in with tri-colours for the celebration. The students of class X and XII were present to witness the programme. The manager of LCS, Fr Dr John Baptist Saldanha was the president for the function.

The programme began at 8 am with a prayer song by the staff. The comperes of the day, Melron Lobo and Nethra Prabhu, welcomed the guests as they stepped onto the dais. Janice Dsouza of class X welcomed the gathering. The guests on the dais were the manager, Fr Dr John Baptist Saldanha, the principal- Fr Robert D'Souza, the vice-principal Belita Mascarenhas, assistant parish priest, Fr Pramod Crasta.



The programme was live-streamed on Youtube. The dignitaries offered a floral tribute to the photo of the architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar for his contribution to the country.

Fr Dr J B Saldanha hoisted the flag. Anika Bharadraj and Saiyam Shet of class X gave the significance of the day in English and Hindi respectively.

Singing of patriotic songs by all the teachers consisting of three different groups added a feeling of unity.

The Catholic Board of Education that honoured Lourdes Central School with trophies for 100% results for classes 10 and 12, was handed over to the class teachers by the manager and the principal.

The president of the function spoke on the occasion and appreciated the students and parents who accompanied them to watch the Republic Day celebration. Speaking about the unique Indian Constitution, he told the gathering that the Constitution expects us to respect, evolve and cherish the growth of our country. The country has few impediments which hamper the growth and it is the duty of the younger generation to help its upliftment. He expressed his pride to the soldiers who dedicated their selffless lives for maintaining peace in the country.

Andrea Menezes of class X thanked the guests on the dais and off the dais for their presence and effort in making the 72nd Republic Day a grand success.

The comperes of the day ended the programme by wishing everyone a Happy Republic Day.

After the programme, a free blood test camp was organized by the principal for the staff of LCS.
