Kaup, Jan 26: Revenue Minister R Ashok laid the foundation stone for Mini Vidhana Soudha building of the taluk on Monday January 25.
Lighting the lamp and speaking after the ceremony, Ashok said, "Going forward, every third Saturday of the month, deputy commissioner (DC), assistant deputy commissioner (ADC), tahsildar and other officials will themselves visit every village. They have to listen to the grievances of the people from 10 am to 5 pm. In addition, they have to have food at Anganwadi or government hostels. Then only they will come to know about the villages. They systems will fall in place only after this exercise. If this is followed, the officials will be able to reach to every gram panchayat in the next two years. So many years people were running from post to pillar in the offices of tahsildar and ACs for pension, Khata and revenue related works. Let the DCs run in future towards the people and attend to their needs."
The minister said that he has instructed to start this system in Udupi district from this week itself on trial and error basis.
Ashok further said, "The project of this mini Vidhana Soudha should not become a five year plan. Engineer has given assurance that the work will be finished within a year. Out of the estimated Rs 10 crore for this project, Rs 3.33 crore is already released. Rs 10 crore each is also sanctioned for Hebri, Brahmavar and Byndoor taluks.
"Opposition parties are questioning repeatedly as to what the ruling party has done? After BJP government assumed power there were many calamities like natural disaster, floods and Covid-19 pandemic. Still the BJP government has successfully handled these situations. Already Rs 17.93 crore is released to Udupi as compensation for the destruction of property during the floods. Input subsidy of Rs 7.06 lac is deposited in the bank accounts of 268 farmers as Input Subsidy. We have released Rs four crore as relief to houses that have got damaged due to submerging in rain water.
"In future, for old-age pension, the age and income certificate of the concerned woman should not be asked by the officials. Only bank passbook is enough. All data is available with us. Eligible beneficiaries will be identified by the respective village accountants and required letter will be given there itself. This arrangement is done by the department as well as the government. Chief minister Yediyurappa will inaugurate this new system on January 27.
"We are also mulling of bringing system to resolve the revenue land conversion issue throughout the state by simplifying the law. Thought is also being given to give the rights of the land that is tilled by the farmer. We have to bring changes in order to put an end to the tussle between public and government owned land. Revenue department is working in this regard. I have already toured 30 villages and inspected. My aim is to make revenue department people-friendly. Udupi district has maintained the top position in the state in the last 14 months. Let it continue in the same manner,” he said.
The programme was presided over by Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon. Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat, President of coastal development authority Mattaru Ratnakara Hegde, zilla panchayat president Dinakar Babu, Kaup taluk panchayat president Shashiprabha, president of Kaup town municipality Anil Kumar, president of Kaup urban development authority Sudhama Shetty, zilla panchayat vice president Sheela K Shetty, chief secretary of district Mahila Morcha Shilpa Suvarna, zilla panchayat member Geetanjali Suvarna, DC G Jagadeesha, AC Raju K, ADC Sadashiva Prabhu and tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar were present.
