Bengaluru, Jan 25: Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa, who had almost become a laughing stock for his frequent changes in decisions during the COVID-19 lockdown period and subsequently, has done it once again in the allocation of portfolios of three of the ministers for the second time in order to pacify the 'disgruntled' ministers.
Portfolios allocated to ministers by withdrawing and shuffling some after the recent long-delayed cabinet expansion have been changed in respect of three ministers once again.
It is understood that Yediyurappa was forced to pacify the disgruntled ministers as they offered to tender their resignations miffed by the allotment of relatively low-profile portfolios, which would have been a huge embarrassment to the BJP government in the State especially with the state legislative session due to meet shortly.
The health and family welfare minister Dr K Sudhakar, who was sulking after medical education was stripped from him, has now been reassigned to the Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education Department.
Tourism, ecology and environment department has been handed to J C Madhuswamy, who was first given portfolios of medical education, Kannada and culture and subsequently entrusted with the Haj and Wakf portfolio. Madhuswamy is reportedly sulking because the law and parliamentary affairs portfolio was taken away from his and given to home minister Basavaraj Bommai as an additional charge.
Anand Singh has now been given charge of the infrastructure development department and Haj and Wakf. He was first assigned to tourism, environment and ecology.
Minister for youth empowerment and sports and planning K C Narayana Gowda on Monday said that no minister would resign from the government and minor irrigation minister C P Yogeshwar would not be made district in-charge minister for Mandya.
Speaking to presspersons here, Gowda said he was satisfied with the portfolio allotted to him and changes in the portfolios were made to accommodate all legislators who helped in the formation of the BJP government.
He said chief minister B S Yediyurappa has the ability to handle any threats to the government owing to his vast experience and hence onwards the government would focus on developmental agenda.
