Udupi, Jan 24: Gangadhar G Kadekar created a new record in the Indian Book of Records by swimming a distance of 1.4 km in the sea, in breaststroke style, with his legs chained and in Padmasana pose.
This feat was achieved on the morning of Sunday, January 24 at Padukere beach near Sridevi Bhajana mandir. Legs of Gangadhar were chained and a lock was put to the chain. He was swimming in Padmasana pose. He started the swim at 8.36 am and reached shore at 9.40 am. Coastal guard police provided security to Gangadhar.
MLA Raghupati Bhat congratulated Gangadhar G Kadekar. Yashpal Suvarna, president of Udupi district cooperative fish federation. Hariyappa Kotian, managing director of Karthik Group Malpe, additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu, superintendent of coastal guard police Chethan R, referee Harish R, vice president of Jai Durga Swimming Club (R) Kadekar Chandra M Kundar, Harsha Mendon, Janardhana Kotian and all members and locals were present.
