Mangaluru, Dec 23: Dr Sandhya R Anvekar, programme head of Skilling: KITS, department of Electronics, IT, BT, Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka visited Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, here, for inspection of NAIN (New Age Innovation Center) appreciating the infrastructure and facilities provided by the institution to support innovation and entrepreneurship.
Sahyadri hosts the New Age Innovation Network supported by the Government of Karnataka. The center is focused on creating community-centric innovations for the region by focusing on solving the problem of various sectors such as education, health, agriculture sectors in the region.
The highlights of Sahyadri NAIN Center are:
- Total of Rs 1 cr 20 lac has been sanctioned for Sahyadri College to establish the NAIN Center for the development of project ideas to prototype
- Total 10 LLP’s have been established from NAIN projects.
- 4 startups have won funding of Rs 1.05 crore from elevate an initiative by the Government of Karnataka
Dr Sandhya also appreciated the facilities provided by the institution for the students to develop products such as CNC Machine, 3D Printing and Laser Cutting facility and Rapid prototyping labs.
NAIN is a Skill Development Programme launched under the startup policy 2015. It focuses on creating an ecosystem to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in Karnataka. Under this scheme, K-tech Innovation Hubs are established in all the districts of Karnataka fully funded by the Government of Karnataka. The students studying in different disciplines are motivated by mentoring, developing and project funding so as to set up their own startups or self-employment.
Under NAIN, the students are encouraged to identify local problems and address those problems using concepts of frugal innovation, and to develop appropriate technology-based solutions and working prototypes. The mentors assigned to the students help them to formulate a business model based on this new technology and encourage them to think like entrepreneurs.
The principal of Sahyadri College, Dr Rajesha S, district innovation associate Gousekhan and college coordinator, Prashanth Duddela were present at the time of Dr Sandhya Anvekars visit to the institution's NAIN center.
