Moodbidri, May 26: In a complaint filed with the local police station on Tuesday May 25, Jacinta D’Souza from Mangalore said that cash and ornaments kept in her bag had been stolen by thieves on Monday May 24 night.
Jacinta was a guest in the house of Nicholas Aranha residing near Puttige Lord Somanatheshwara temple’s welcome arch near here. There were seven to eight more guests in the house of Nicholas, and all the bags were kept in a room. Reportedly, the rear side door of the house had been closed but not bolted.
It is assumed that the thieves entered the house through the backdoor, sifted through bags, purses etc., kept in the room and took away cash and gold ornaments found therein. Although they opened a cupboard, they did not get any valuables there. On Tuesday morning, it was found that bags and their contents without the valuables were strewn around in the courtyard.
The value of things lost is estimated at Rs 90,000. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs visited the spot. Investigations are being conducted by the local sub-inspector, Rakshit, under the supervision of K U Belliappa, in-charge circle inspector, Mulky.
