Mangalore, May 21: Superintendent of Police (SP) led special crime squad arrested a person who was accused of attempting to murder a certain Guruprasad, nearby Trishuleshwar Temple, located under the jurisdiction of Mangalore north police station.
The chief accused Chandrahas Poojary yane Chandra Yane Kiran (37), a resident of Kotekar here and who was currently staying at suburban Dombivli in Mumbai, was arrested by the policemen of SP’s special crime squad at Tokkottu, here on Friday May 21. The accused along with some of his accomplices had attempted to murder Guruprasad when he was coming out from a canteen, located nearby Trishuleshwar Temple, T T Road here on May 14. Chandrahas and his accomplices were accused of attempting to murder Guruprasad, since the latter was believed to have killed Manjunath yane Manju, a Hindu activist in 2009. A case was registered on the basis of complaint filed by Guruprasad.
The accused Chandrahas Poojary has been a Shiv Sena activist and accused of committing multiple crimes such as murder attempt of a certain Salim at Someshwar, under the limits of Ullal police station and assault attempt on policemen who were accompanying dreaded criminal Vamanjoor Rohi from Mysore to the city at nearby Ibrose Complex, here under Mangalore east police station among others in the past. Chandrahas was awarded bail by the court and summoned to present himself at the court, while he was absconded for six years.
Chandrahas was also involved in other murder attempts in Nerul, under Navi Mumbai police station during August 2009 and Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai during October 2009. Chandrahas has been handed over to Mangalore north police for further investigations.
He was nabbed by the policemen led by Dakshina Kannada acting SP R Ramesh under the leadership of sub-inspector Prakash K, police personnel Anand, Rama Poojary, Sheenappa, Chandrashekar, Girish Bengre, Sunil Kumar, Rajendra Prasad, David D’Souza, Mohammed Iqbal and Shiva Naik.
