Panaji, Dec 1: Jellyfishes along the Calangute-Candolim beach belt are turning out to be a menace for the tourists as over 50 incidents of being stung by them by over the weekend have been reported. The highest number of incidents, 43, were reported from Calangute beach, while there were a few cases recorded in Candolim and Baga as well.

The Drishti lifeguards were at the scene to provide necessary first aid to those who got stung by the jellyfish. There has been a sudden surge in jellyfish stings in the last two weeks, with cases being reported from almost all beaches in the state.

In one case at Calangute on Sunday, a lady who was stung by a jellyfish suffered breathing issues along with pain in her chest, she was also on verge of losing consciousness. Fortunately, lifeguards at the spot administered her oxygen before rushing her in a jeep to the Candolim primary health centre for further treatment. Drishti lifeguards have been patrolling the beaches and advising the tourists to not touch the jellyfish which float close to the beach or wash up on the shore.
