Bantwal: ACB officials trap deputy tahsildar accepting bribe

Bantwal, Nov 27: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials trapped deputy tahsildar in Bantwal taluk office, Ravishankar, when accepting bribe on Thursday November 26.

In the land records of Veronica Rodrigues, mother of Arun Rodrigues from Pajeeru, the survey number relating to a land at Benjanapadavu village had been wrongly mentioned at 107/14 instead of 107/1H. Application addressed to the tahsildar seeking to set right this anomaly had been filed on June 12, 2018. On May 17, 2019, further steps had been ordered.

The file had reached the office of Meramajalu village accountant's office for verification. The village accountant kept the file pending there for a year before sending it to the deputy tahsildar for approval. But he had not signed the approval letter. The complainant reportedly had met the deputy tahsildar several times requesting him to move the file. Finally, he demanded bribe for signing the order. ACB officials caught the official red-handed on Thursday when accepting bribe of Rs 1,000.

The operation was conducted by ACB police inspectors Gururaj and Shyamsundar H M, under the leadership of deputy superintendent of police K C Prakash, and guidance of Dakshina Kannada ACB superintendent of police S C Bopaiah.

    Excellent news ! One more corrupt VA in jail hopefully. There are many more to be caught. Only the public can do it by exposing these rats. Now let us see if the judge will follow the example set by the case of bribary at Kundapura

    If someone is not signing file after many visits, then give complaint to his boss.
    Here in this Bantwal tahashildar.
    I think that is the right approach.
    Now thousand rupees gone. Need to visit courts and finally work not done. File still not signed. May be bad idea to trap them!

    The solution to these bribe demanding incident can be enacted or are there but not taken any action till now.
    The files need to be processed in each department or officials within reasonable days, if they fail to do so they have to give written replies both to the parties & the higher authorities the reason for rejecting. If no such measures are not resorted then those officials should be held guilty of delay & they have to be fined which has to be paid to the aggrieved parties, if they fail the second or more times then they have to be suspended for 6 months & a higher fine like their 50% salary has to be forfeited to the govt. that is their due in that suspension period.
    But in many cases they get reappointed with the cases hushed up by higher authorities themselves taking bribes in some cases.

    Why selectively target this poor deputy tahsildar? Everybody is corrupt in Karnataka or India starting right from the top politicians down to the peons in all the government offices. Just imagine, if you start arresting all the corrupt officers, trust me all the government offices in Karnataka will have to be closed as everybody will be in jail. This might sound ridiculous but it's the absolute truth.

    What is shocking that the department itself commits a human error and to correct their error they demand bribe. If these people are satisfied with the salary the govt is giving they should leave the job. Many of the govt jobs can be done with a flick of a second. The laziness is there in them that they care a damn about people's problems. Shame on this man demanding Rs. 1,000 to set right their own mistake.

    Since 4 years, we tried our best to sort out this dispute. The people those who are working in BC ROAD taluk Office are non co operative. Bribe they ask us hand over to the Peon in the wash room,
    where there is no CCT footage.
