Mangalore, May 12: A programme to celebrate the decennial of the church and for the blessing of the belfry was held in the premises of Holy Cross Church Eliyarpadavu near here on Tuesday May 11.
Bishop of Mangalore, Rt Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, inaugurated and blessed the belfry of the church. This was followed by the celebration of the solemn thanksgiving Eucharistic sacrifice. At this programme, the Bishop was the main celebrant. He was assisted by Fr Andrew D’Souza and other priests of the Varado.
Earlier in the day, the Bishop was extended an affectionate welcome in a traditional way, on his arrival. After the solemn Eucharistic blessings, the stage programme was organized, which was presided over by the Bishop. Fr Andrew D’Souza, vicar-vara of the city south deanery, was the chief guest. Fr Victor Gerald D’Souza, parish priest of Panir church, was the guest of honour.
The programme began with the welcome address delivered by Edward D’Souza, vice president of the parish pastoral council. The decennial report was thereafter, presented by Cynthia Menezes, secretary of the parish pastoral council. People who actively got involved with and extended a helping hand in the endeavour, were honoured by presenting mementoes to them.
Fr Andrew D’Souza released the decennial souvenir titled ‘Kursa Savlenth’, brought out to commemorate the occasion.
The gathering was then treated with a delicious meal prepared by the parishioners themselves. Fr Reginald Pinto, parish priest of Holy Cross Church, Eliyarpadavu, proposed vote of thanks.
