Kasargod, May 11: In a friction between the activists of the CPM and Muslim League at Perla town in the district on the evening of Monday May 10, two persons including a sub-inspector of police, were wounded. Two cars and five shops suffered extensive damages.
On Monday, CPM had organized a meeting at Perla to clarify its stand on the charging of Sudhar Master, CPM’s Kumble area secretary, with the murder of Congress functionary, Jabbar. After a procession was taken through the town, a meeting was held. Trouble broke out suddenly, as stones were pelted and people started ransacking property. Badiyadka sub-inspector, Sibi Thomas, and Congress activist, Abdulla Kuredka, were injured in the incidents.
Thomas was admitted into the general hospital in the town, while Abdulla got admitted into a private hospital here. The cars belonging to the district Congress committee member, Somashekhar J S, and his brother, Radhakrishna Nayak, which had been parked by the roadside, were pushed and made to topple by the activists. The office of the Muslim League in Perla came under attack.
Violence erupted immediately after the procession of the CPM, which began at Perla check post, reached Perla town. CPM alleged that stones were hurled at the procession from the Muslim League office, while the Muslim League accused the CPM workers of pelting stones and damaging its office and some vehicles parked by the roadside. Muslim League said that the violence was triggered and supported by Manjeshwar MLA, C H Kunhambu.
The situation in Perla is tense, and tight police vigil has been kept. District superintendent of police (SP), Prakash, and other high level police officers visited the spot and supervised the arrangements. During the visit of the SP, Untied Front workers led by lawyer, Kodot Govindan Nair, mobbed him and restricted his movement for some time in protest against the police inaction, when he visited Badiyadka police station. Circle inspector, T P Premraj, has been entrusted with the task of overseeing security.
The CPM meeting was addressed by MLA, C H Kunambu, block panchayat member, Shankar Rai Master, and several left front leaders.
The United Front led by the Congress party has given a call for observing Hartal within Enmakaje panchayat jurisdiction on Tuesday May 11, in protest against the above incidents.
