Mangalore, May 10: A patient, who had got himself admitted into a hospital here for treatment of his stomach pain, escaped from the hospital and allowed himself to be crushed by a train, presumably on Saturday May 8 evening. It is thought that he resorted to this extreme step, having been unable to bear the agonizing stomach pain.
Manjunath (40) from Sanjayanagar, Mogarody in Shaktinagar here, had been admitted into the government Wenlock Hospital here by his family members, on Saturday morning for the treatment of his chronic stomach pain. By afternoon, he was found to have escaped from the hospital. After the hospital authorities informed his family members, they filed a missing complaint with Kadri police station in the city.
On Sunday morning, the lifeless body of an unidentified male was found on the railway tracks between the central railway station and Netravati Railway Bridge, and the railway policemen registered a case. After Kadri policemen came to know of this incident, they asked the family members to see the body of the victim. The family members identified the body to be of Manjunath.
The deceased is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.
