Raichur, May 4: Out of the seven power generating units of Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS), three units, No. 1, 2 and 7, suspended operations due to technical snags on Monday May 3. Unit No. 4 is already under annual maintenance. The other three units also are not working to their full potential, and the total power generation here has slumped to 600 mega watts (mw) per day.
RTPS chief executive officer, Nagaraj, has said that repairs of the three units have been begun. He is optimistic that these units will begin functioning soon. It is learnt that improper supply of quality coal, ageing, vibration faults etc., have created problems in the functioning of these units. Unit No. 4, closed for annual maintenance about three weeks ago, is yet to be attended by technicians, it is gathered, as a team from Japan that supplied turbine to this unit, have to attend to annual maintenance and repairs.
Although each of the seven units in Raichur is expected to generate 210 mw of power, RTPS has not been functioning at its peak since the last two months, and units are developing problems often. The state, already reeling under power shortage, is getting further affected by the repeated problems surfacing in Racihur.
