Tendulkar Two Test Short of Becoming Most Capped Player

New Delhi, Apr 24 (IANS): Sachin Tendulkar, who turns 37 Saturday, is all set to cross another milestone as he is just two Tests away from becoming the most capped player in world cricket.

Tendulkar, who has over 30,000 runs in international cricket, has played 166 Tests and is second in the list behind Steve Waugh, who has played 168 matches.

Among the current crop of cricketers, Ricky Ponting is fifth in the list with 144 matches followed by Rahul Dravid (139) and Jacques Kallis (137).

In ODIs, Tendulkar and Sri Lankan veteran Sanath Jayasuriya have been competing with each other for the top position.

Jayasuriya is currently leading the pack with 444 ODIs, two matches more than Tendulkar.

Tendulkar, however, holds the record of most number of runs scored in Tests and ODIs and also the most number of centuries in both the formats.

The master batsman has scored 13,447 Test runs at an average of 55.56 and has knocked 47 hundreds.

In ODIs, Tendulkar has 17,598 runs at an average of 45.12 with 46 centuries.
