Ajman : Thumbay Moideen Invited to Speak at IFC – World Bank Conference

Ajman, Apr 13: GMU President, Thumbay Moideen invited to speak at the IFC – World Bank ‘Education of Health Professionals Conference’ held in Washington D.C.

In a first of its kind invitation to a private medical university from the region, Mr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Gulf Medical University, Ajman had the privilege of being invited by the World Bank to speak at the IFC – World Bank Education of Health Professionals Conference, held at IFC Headquarters, Washington, D.C on the 31st of March 2010.

Thumbay Moideen highlighted on the achievement of the Gulf Medical University and GMC Hospitals in the Middle East. He also discussed about the initiative of successfully establishing a private medical university and a teaching hospital in UAE in collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Higher Education, and government organizations like Red Crescent Society, Health Authority of Abu Dhabi and the Arab Board.

“Taking this success forward, we have forayed into Africa by a small step of establishing GMC Hospital in Malawi. We would endeavor and strive to provide quality healthcare at very affordable costs. This would follow future expansion and establishment of similar healthcare facilities in Mauritius and other countries in Africa”, he said. 

The conference was also presided by Hon. Julio Frenk, Dean, Harvard School of Public Health and Former Minister of Health, Mexico; Hon. Arthur T. Porter, Director-General and CEO, McGill University Health Centre; Member of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada; Hon. Robert Joseph Mettle-Nunoo, Deputy Minister of Health, Ghana; Ms. Gloria D. Steele, Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator, Bureau for Global Health, USAID; Mr. Bjarne Garden, Assistant Director, Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD); Mr. Joseph C. Kolars, Consultant- Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; amongst other leading dignitaries from the World Bank including Presidents and Chancellors of Universities from around the world.
