Mangalore, Apr 9: Protesting against the delaying tactics employed in the matter of implementation of the revised University Grants Commission (UGC) scales, the Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT) has decided to organize protests.
“The state cabinet had taken a decision to implement the revised UGC scales about six months ago. However, the new scales have not been implemented so far. The college teachers are frustrated at the delay in the payment of revised scales, which is due since January 2006. The finance department has been dithering from executing the government’s decision that would have benefited about 12,000 employees of university, government and aided colleges in the state. The fact that the higher education department has also remained a silent spectator in this regard, has contributed to the delay. AMUCT will extend its full support to the dharna, college bandh and such other protest programmes the state federation of college teachers will undertake as already announced,” said Prof Joslyn Lobo, president of AMUCT, and Prof Purushottam K V, in a statement.
