New Delhi, March 30 (IANS) Delhi Daredevils captain Gautam Gambhir said that David Warner's century was one of the best Twenty20 knocks he has seen as it came on a difficult track.
Warner struck 107 off 69 balls with nine fours and five sixes as Daredevils beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 40 runs here Monday.
"It was one of the best Twenty20 innings I have seen as it came on this kind of a track. He played an incredible innings. He played his shots and gave Paul Collingwood a lot of time to play his game," Gambhir said after the match.
Gambhir said the slow nature of the wicket made it difficult for the batsmen to score and his bowlers did a great job.
"We know how to play on this kind of wicket because it is our home turf. The bowlers are used to the conditions so they were mixing it up for the batsmen. It could be difficult for other teams to come and adjust to the conditions."
Gambhir, who returned after missing three matches with a hamstring injury, said the presence of Collingwood has added to the strength of the side.
Colingwood, who joined the team two days back after England's series against Bangaldesh, and Warner shared a 128-run stand after Daredevils lost three early wickets.
"It is very important to have a player like Collingwood. He can contribute in all the departments. His partnership with Warner set the game for us."
Gambhir also had words of encouragement for young fast bowler Umesh Yadav who took two wickets.
"He is a very good prospect and quality bowler who can bowl with pace. If he works hard he can play for the country. India might get a bowler who can bowl at 145-150 km."
Warner, on his part, said he wanted to play crucial knocks for his team.
"We have world class players and whoever comes in the side will have to fight for the place. I am happy to have scored my first IPL century and would want to continue in the same fashion."
"We have a good coach in Greg Shipperd. He is the best batting coach."
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Sourav Ganguly said Warner's knock made all the difference.
"We got early wickets but Warner took the game away from us. We will have to improve our batting. We also need bowl better."
