Doha: Mangalore Cricket Club, Qatar Celebrates Women's Day

Doha, Mar 28:
Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC), Qatar marked March 25, 2010 as a day of celebration and dedicated it to the women of the club. The celebration was held at the Indian Cultural Center on Thursday March 25 and was attended by about 40 women. This was the second year in which the Women's day celebrations were organized by MCC for the members.

March 8, 2010 was celebrated as International Women's Day all across the world - a day to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of ordinary women. However, since the students in Indian schools had their final examinations the mothers in Qatar had to postpone their celebrations. The organizing committee of MCC took great efforts to plan an evening of fun, camaraderie and entertainment. It was an opportunity for the women to take a break from their routine and relax in the company of other women. 

Della Rego, started off the proceedings with a prayer. Grace D’Souza recited a poem in honor of women, while Prema Monteiro spoke on the achievements of the current generation of Indian women. Interactive and innovative games were conducted by Vilma Colaco. The evening was compered by Shalini Monteiro. Joyce Alvares conducted the introduction session which helped the ladies to come forward and introduce themselves and share their thoughts on Women's Day.

Milan Arun, head of cultural activities at Indian Cultural Center, a prominent multi-faceted Mangalorean was the chief guest. In her message to the audience, Milan Arun motivated the women to bring out their hidden potential and being the best they can be.
 
The highlight of the evening however was the beauty session where a long-time Qatar resident and an experienced Mangalorean beautician Leena Saldanha, proprietor of Al Mallika Beauty Parlour, Al Qamar Beauty Parlour & Al Ousra Beauty Parlour gave tips on skin and hair care. The question and answer session that followed was interactive and very informative. 

Reena Castelino, the cultural secretary welcomed the members and Riana Pinto, the general secretary proposed the vote of thanks.
