Mangaluru, Sep 1: Onam is celebrated as an outcome of reasons that have to do with mythology as well as old agrarian practices. And the other cause for celebrating Onam is because it is the time of the year when a good harvest has been gathered, resulting in plenitude and happiness.
The most iconic tradition associated with Onam is that of creating Pookalams, or floral-like arrangements in various designs laid on the floor. Flowers ranging from locally available marigold, chrysanthemum to others sourced from the neighbourhood are plucked and arranged in various shapes.
Shakthi Education Trust organized Onam celebrations on its campus by beautifying the floor with a multicoloured pookalam.
Dr K C Naik, the administrator spoke on the occasion and conveyed his good wishes and blessings for a prosperous and healthy future to all his employees. Sanjith Naik, the secretary, Ramesh K, the chief advisor, Prakyath Rai, the Institute Development Officer, Prabhakara G S, Shakthi PU College principal, Vidya Kamath G, principal of Shakthi Residential School, Neema Saxena, co-ordinator of SGK Pre-School and all the staff were present on the occasion.
Pookalam-making competitions were conducted virtually for the students of Shakthi Residential School. The wholehearted participation of the family with the students was affirmed to be a very spirited affair.
